Frequently asked questions on alloy repairs

Frequently asked questions on alloy repairs

  • How do you repair the wheel?

Firstly we remove the wheels from the vehicle leaving the vehicle safe on jacks and axle stands, the tyre is masked, we then machine the damaged areas, prep the wheel for painting, paint the wheel and then lacquer, bringing the wheel back to its original colour and condition (all wheels are torqued to manufacturers specification).

  • How do I keep my wheels clean?

The best method to keep your wheel clean is to regularly clean the wheel with soap and water, using a sponge to get into all the spokes and corners.

  • Can I use wheel cleaners on my wheels?

We recommend in staying away from alloy cleaning products. Some wheel cleaners use acid to help remove brake dust and other road grime. This acid will attack the clear coat and paint on the wheel and can, in some cases, cause discoloration after just one application. It is best to use only soap and water to clean your wheels.

  • How do you get rid of all the scratches and kerb damage?

We use air power tools and sand out the scratches and reshape the alloy back to a smooth finish, then apply a primer, a colour paint and then lacquer the wheel for a top coat finish.

  • How long does it take?

Generally, it takes between 60 to 90 minutes to repair and repaint your wheel all depending on the size and type of damage.

  • Do you take my wheels away?

No, we repair the wheels in our mobile workshop, (a Mercedes sprinter) so you don’t have to send your wheels away for repairs.

  • When can I wash the car?

It is best not to get the wheel wet for at least 24hrs, it’s even better if you can leave it for 2 to 3 days to really cure properly.

  • Is there a guarantee?

Yes all wheels and body works (except diamond cut) are covered with our 12 month warrantee.

  • What is a Smart Repair?

Smart Repair is small to medium area repair techniques. The idea is to use specialist tools and materials to repair a small area on your vehicle. In using the latest materials and tools we are able to effectively repair the damage saving you taking it to a body shop. The work is carried out in our same day mobile work van.

  • Can you match the paint colour properly? Do you use the manufacturer’s paint?

Yes we use the manufacturers paint code system which is kept on your car. All repairs are mixed using our mobile colour paint program.

  • How much will my repair cost?

Obviously the price depends on the work done. However, our prices are ALWAYS lower than body shops and cheaper than your excess. As a rough guide, alloy wheel repair start from £50.00 and a single bumper scuff can cost as little as £125.
